A weekend of Music, Magic, and Manor

Opera audience

On the weekend of May 5th-7th, Jimbour House welcomed back visitors for a weekend of intimate opera and chamber music performances by Australia’s most elite performers to celebrate the 20th year of Opera at Jimbour. Opera lovers rejoiced in the opportunity to combine the living history of Jimbour House with a weekend of opera and opulence. Let’s take a look back at the weekend that was, Opera at Jimbour…

This year’s event featured its largest program to date and a star-studded lineup of internationally renowned soloists and chamber musicians from Opera Queensland, Ensemble Q and a 26-piece Orchestra from Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University.

The program began with an inaugural long lunch for over 100 guests set in the Deborah Russell Courtyard.  This was the perfect location to celebrate 20 years of an event that the late Deborah adored and played an integral part in its creation and growth. Jimbour’s custodian, David Russell was home for the celebrations with son, Andrew and enhanced the guided residence tours sharing personal stories and insights into the fascinating story and place that is Jimbour.

Guests were treated to an experience which catered for each of their five senses. The sound of sweet melodies filled the air with gala events on the Eastern Lawn, chamber music in the Aircraft Hangar, intimate recitals in the lavish Drawing Room and a memorable sunrise performance overlooking the swimming pool and Jimbour plains. The beauty and grandeur of the historic home sitting amongst expansive gardens and surrounded by endless rural views provided breathtaking sights around every corner.  With an array of local produce, regional providores and a signature lavender infused Gin, the delectable tastes of the weekend were well received by all. Most importantly, the warmth of the Autumn sun combined with the unique atmosphere of the event touched the heart of each and every visitor. The property was alive with excitement and spirit, with guests coming from near and far to experience the incredible event.

The event’s 20th anniversary was a testament to its enduring popularity, an incredible celebration of music, culture, and history which we hope carries on for many years to come. We would like to extend a huge thank you to guests, performers, staff and all of those involved in bringing this year’s event to life. We hope to see you again next year!
